When out at the course with your friends or in tournament play, it’s always crucial to hit the ball close to the pin. You need to hit a longer iron into the green and let it release up to the hole. This way you don’t have to hit it perfectly to get a good result.
Concentrate on the ball
There are some things to keep in mind when hitting long irons into the green. For the single digit handicap, it’s always recommended to hit a hybrid because they are easier to hit. Still, there are many times when you will go with a 3 or 4 iron. For instance, on the windy days you can keep the ball flight down and keep those shots in play.
My advise with the longer irons is to be as smooth as possible and concentrate on the ball. Especially, if you have a situation where there is trouble in play, like water. Make sure you take a little extra time with your swing, meaning that you need to make a smooth, full turn in your backswing and never rush the downswing. The essential key here is to keep your eyes on the ball through impact.
